What is a Robot Mop?

What is a Robot MopIn case you were wondering, a Robot Mop is a small device that uses wheels to glide over the floor while cleaning it. They are very similar to Robot Vacuums in their shape and design, but have a few added features.

A Robot Mop has a compartment that stores a cleaning solution and another compartment to store the dirty water. You will notice they are taller than other types of robot floor cleaners as well.

Types of Robot Mops

Before you start shopping for a robot mop, you should know the difference between the different types and what functions to look for. Below we will explain the 3 different variations of Robot Mops you will find available online.

Best Types of Robot Mops

Stand-Alone Robot Mop: These are the best type of robot mops for cleaning Hardwood Floors, Tile Floors and Vinyl. They have the ability to wet, clean and dry a floor in one pass.

Stand-alone robot mops clean floors using the scrubbing pads located underneath them. They also have a spray nozzle to spray cleaning solution for tough stains and kitchen grease.

They will glide across the room mopping with a moist pad scanning for stains or spills. Once it finds a stain or spill, the robot mop will begin spraying the cleaning solution from its nozzle. Higher-End Robot Mops will vibrate their scrubbing pads over the stain, while others will go over it back & forth until clean.

Robot mops don’t have any suction power and won’t work over carpets or rugs. But they will clean hard-to-reach places such as behind toilets, under tables and around the kitchen.

The Best Single Function Robot Mop iRobot Braava jet 240

Hybrid Robot Vacuum and Mop: Hybrid robot floor cleaners are more popular than stand-alone robot mops. They function as a suction-vacuum to clean carpets and floors, and also have the ability to mop floors. Even though they can’t clean tough stains from hardwood floors or tile, they can mop small spills and fine dirt.

Robot vacuum and mop combos are perfect for anyone that doesn’t have any other type of robot vacuum. They will sweep your floors with their suction and mop at the same time.

The Best Hybrid Robot Mop is Roborock E25

Robot Mop Duos: There are a few robot mops that work in tandem along with robot vacuums. Each device will notify the other when it’s cleaning cycle has finished and to start it’s own cleaning cycle.

For now, only certain Roomba models can take advantage of this feature. Other companies are sure to follow and we will keep you updated when they do.

The Best Robot Mop Duo is iRobot Braava Jet M6

We would like to start with a full review of the iRobot Braava Jet 240 robot mop. The company is the leader in all types of robot floor cleaners.

iRobot mops come with the most advanced features and options. They have the best floor mapping software and are compatible with Alexa, Google and Siri.

This is the best stand-alone robot mop for several reasons. The iRobot Braava jet 240 has a scrubbing feature to remove tough stains and dirt from hardwood floors. It can also clean dirt from between Tile and Vinyl Floors.

It has 3 mopping functions depending on the type of Braava jet pad type you use.

The Wet Mopping pad will spray cleaning solution on spills and stains, followed by a triple pass with it’s scrubbing pad.

The Damp Mopping pad will also spray stains and spills with cleaning solution. However, it will only perform a double pass with the scrubbing pad.

Finally, the Dry Sweep pad of the iRobot Braava Jet 240, skips the cleaning solution and will go over the floors once. This is ideal for mopping loose dirt, dust and hair.

Another great feature of this robot mop is the Invisible Boundary selection. This allows you to specify which areas, such as carpet or rugs to avoid and go around.

The battery life of the iRobot Braava jet 240 will provide up-to 100 mins of mopping before it heads back for a recharge.

Pros
  • Stand-Alone Robot Mop
  • Compact Size to Fit Under Tables/Chairs/Cabinets
  • Quieter than Robot Vacuums/Mops
  • Compatible with Google/Alexa/Siri
  • Invisible Boundary
Cons
  • Can’t reuse mopping pads

2. Roborock E25 “Best Hybrid Robot Mop”

After reviewing several Robot Vacuum/Mops, we decided that the Roborock E25 is the best among the hybrids. To start, Roborock has been specializing in Robot floor cleaner for many years now. They add many of the high-end features you would expect to find only in expensive models. However, the price of the Roborock E25 is only a fraction of the cost of a Roomba.

This robot vacuum/mop hybrid follows an intelligent cleaning path that covers 95% of the floor. This allows it to clean up to 35% faster than robots that use random cleaning paths.

It has an on-board water tank that allows it to mop up fine dirt and wipe away small spills. The tanks design prevents it from overspilling or puddling even while it’s mopping and cleaning.

Since it’s a Hybrid Robot Mop/Vacuum, it will work on all surface types. This includes Hardwood Floors, Tiles, Vinyl, Rugs and even medium Pile Carpet.

Another important feature to note is the long lasting battery charge. The Roborock E25 has a 100 min. runtime which is enough to clean the whole home in a single charge.

As far as the unique features of this robot mop/vacuum hybrid, it provides the best spot cleaning among them all. The dust box is also larger than many other robot vacuum hybrids, and includes a E11 HEPA filter to trap dust.

Pros
  • Cleans All Floor Types
  • Intelligent Cleaning Path
  • Sweeps and Mops in Single Pass
  • Anti-Falling System
  • Anti-Tangle Brush
Cons
  • Does not scrub tough stains

3. iRobot Braava Jet M6 “Best Robot Mop Duo”

To get the cleanest floors, you will need more than 1 robot to do the job. The most efficient method is when both robots can communicate with each other.

Robot duos can notify each other when to start mopping or sweeping to avoid conflicts. The iRobot Braava Jet M6 works with other Roomba vacuums exactly in this way. Once the roomba vacuum finishes sweeping and vacuuming, it is notified to start mopping the floors.

This robot mop has a precision jet spray to soften tough stains and kitchen grease. It doesn’t have a vibrating scrubbing pad but will mop back & forth until it removes the stain.

Besides the Imprint Technology, the iRobot Braava Jet M6 is also compatible with several Smart apps as well. It can connect via Alexa and Google via its built-in Wifi adapter. It also uses advanced Smart Mapping technology which allows virtual boundaries to avoid.

The scrubbing pads are not reusable and cost around $2 for each replacement. You can either use the provided cleaning solution or follow our guide for a DIY alternative.

Finally, you will get up to 100 minutes of run time per charge. This shouldn’t be a problem since it will Recharge & Resume when needed.

Pros
  • Duo Imprint Link
  • Precision Spray Jet
  • Wifi & Smart Home Compatible
  • Recharge & Resume
  • Smart Mapping
Cons
  • Does not scrub tough stains
  • Can’t reuse mopping pads

4. ILIFE Shinebot W400 “Best Floor Scrubbing”

The next robot mop in our review is the Shinebot W400 by iLife. It is a stand-alone robot mop that only cleans hard floors. You will need a seperate robot to vacuum carpet and rugs or do it manually.

The Shinebot W400 provides the best scrubbing from all the previous mops in our review. It also has the largest tank system of them all. Its dual tank system can hold 0.85 liters of clean water and a seperate tank that holds 0.9 liters of dirty water. This makes it great for larger homes and bigger rooms. You won’t have to empty or refill the cleaning solution as often.

How it Works: ILife designed the Shinebot W400 with 4 different cleaning methods. It can target stains and spray them with a jet of cleaning solution to loosen up any dirt. It will continue to scrub that area with a fiber roller until it is clean. Afterwards it will suck up all the dirty water and debris into a separate water tank. Finally it will scrape any remaining dirt and residue from the floor, leaving it dry and clean.

One of the most important features that is missing from this robot mop is the inability to automatically dock and recharge. Due to possible water hazard, you will need to manually recharge the unit when it runs out of battery.

To conclude, the Shinebot W400 is the best floor scrubbing robot mop and has the largest water tanks compared to other models. However, it does require some human intervention to recharge and dock it, once its battery dies.

Pros
  • Scrubs and Mops All Hard Floor Types
  • Large Dual Water Tank System
  • 4 Cleaning Cycles
  • Automatically Detects Obstacles
Cons
  • Must be charged manually

What to Look For in the Best Robot Mop

What to look for in a robot mopThere are several features that only the Best Robot Mops will have. Below is a detailed list and explanation of these features.

Vibrating Scrubber: For tough stains, you want to get a robot mop that has a vibrating scrubber. Not only will it cut down on the mopping time, it will also clean tough stains on your floors.

Only the best stand-alone robot mops will have this feature and you won’t find it on hybrids at all. Instead hybrids and lower-end robot mops will go over tough stains several times without vibrating. You will need to manually treat the area or mop it by hand.

Reusable Mopping Pad: Every robot mop has a mopping pad located underneath. It can either wet-mop or dry-mop the floor, depending on the setting.

However, only the best robot mops will have reusable mopping pads. The average cost of a replacement pad is $3-$7 each. So having reusable pads will cut down on operating and maintenance costs.

Do Not Cross Boundaries: Whether using a stand-alone robot mop or a hybrid one, you will definitely want to specify certain areas to avoid. You can specify boundaries using special magnetic tape or the provided App.

You should note that stand-alone robot mops can’t clean carpets or rugs at all! Even though hybrid robot vacuum/mops can clean all floor types, including carpets and rugs, they can only do one or the other at a time. In many cases, you will have to attach a water tank and mopping pad to mop floors and specify carpeted areas to avoid.

You will need to specify the boundaries to prevent it from getting stuck or ruining the mopping pad over carpet.

Water Tank System: The final feature to look for in a robot mop is the capacity of its water tank. Robot mops can’t empty or refill their water tanks on their own! So you should expect some hands-on and manual maintenance every now and then.

However larger water tanks in a robot mop will result in longer cleaning runs and less manual emptying by you.

How Does a Robot Mop Work?

Robot mops resemble other robot floor cleaners in their shape and size. However, they work in a different manner.

Robot mops don’t only use suction to clean your floors, they also use water and a cleaning solution as well. Some of the best models have a scrubbing pad that vibrates when it detects tough stains or spills on hard floors. Other types of robot mops work by spraying a cleaning solution and sucking up it up as it passes over it.

Some robots can clean both types of floors, hard and carpets, as well. They are referred to as Robot Vacuum Mops or Duo Robot Floor Cleaners. The better and more advanced ones can automatically detect carpet and hard floors, while others need to have borders to restrict certain areas.

Is a Robot Mop Worth it?

Is a robot mop worth itBuying a robot to mop your floors can be expensive, and you might be wondering if it’s worth it or if you’re better off getting a robot mop/vacuum instead.
